Mojos has an urban vibe with quirky art on the walls, cement floors and a full bar area to the side of the restaurant. It's one of those places that are family friendly by day and a cool place to grab a drink with your friends at night.
Every table is adorned with their signature varieties of bbq sauces ranging from super spicy (chipotle) to the traditional sweet (my personal favorite).
To start off we ordered the fried pickles and butterbean hummus with pitas
Normally I am not a big fan of fried pickles...the concept itself just doesn't sound appealing to me. These pickles, however, were fried perfectly with not too much breading, no excess grease, and the sour taste of the pickle paired really well with the buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. The butterbean hummus was out of this world! I am seriously considering never touching traditional chickpea hummus again! It was flavorful, rich, and creamy and when you smeared some on a warm pita it was entrée worthy!
Because it was a hot day out, I ordered the blackened shrimp salad which was a tasty blend of blackened grilled shrimp, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and cornbread croutons, yes I said CORNBREAD croutons! Little bites of sweet crunchy joy. I paired it with honey mustard dressing.
Mom ordered the pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato mash and smoked corn. She claimed that the pork was some of the best she's ever had! It was moist and not over powered by that smoke flavor. The sweet potato mash was heaven, I usually do not care for sugar coated sweet potato dishes (especially ones that involve marshmallows) but this had a subtle, almost savory sweetness with pecans mixed throughout. Trust me, you HAVE to try this stuff! The smoked corn was also good and very refreshing from the typical canned restaurant corn (it was particularly tasty on my salad, I am hoping they'll permanently add it to the dish).
Our group can't wait to make a return visit to Mojo, while it might be a tad more pricey than your average bbq joint, you can definitely taste the value in the food.
