Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe Review (Rice Village)

Last time we were in this area checking out Torchy's Tacos I couldn't help but notice the cutest little place called Sweet Paris. If you know me well, you're aware that I am slightly obsessed with everything French, I was lucky enough to visit Paris for a week in 2009 and ever since then I secretly wish I was a chic Parisian wandering through the french countryside so when a see a rustic brick building with mint green awnings and french inspired food it's inevitable that I'm going there.

The menu is what you'd expect from a creperie offering both sweet and savory varieties as well as omelets, sandwiches, waffles, and assorted imported sodas and coffee drinks.

I noticed that Creperies are pretty rare in the US but it seems like they're starting to catch on which I don't have a problem with AT ALL. I had a couple of crepes in Paris from a small street vendor and they were delicious but this was actually my first time trying one in the States. One element I really enjoyed at this place was that "french market" vibe with imported beverages for sale and an open kitchen.

Because I was so fond of the smoked salmon in Paris, I decided to try their version and ordered "The Nordic" which had smoked salmon, pickled red onions, fresh dill, sour cream, capers, scallions, & lemon. First of all, I was impressed by the size of the dish, the filling was plentiful and the side salad was simple but tasty and it complemented the dish well. The filling was balanced in flavors and textures but with the salmon, pickled onion, AND the capers I felt it was a little on the salty side, I would order it again but without the onions.

I was also a fan of these table numbers/stands!

Lewis ordered The turkey grapes and Brie with walnuts as suggested by the cashier. It was delicious and the sweetness of the grapes paired with the creamy texture of the brie and the crunch of the nuts made for a satisfying dish. How did these compare to French crepes? They were pretty spot on - the only slight difference was they were slightly thicker in texture but other than that it was pretty dang close!

The Verdict

If I could imagine a perfect brunch spot this would be it, I was tempted to steal these decorations for my apartment. Not only is Sweet Paris stylish, it delivers on the food end as well. I am looking forward to my next visit and trying one of the sweet crepes varieties.

  2. Sounds like you had a great experience there! And you lucked out - When I went, I tried to take a photo, and a worker (manager?) snapped at me and said no photos were allowed! :( It sort of tainted the experience for me, but after reading your review, I just may have to go back!

  3. What? That is unfortunate. I asked the workers up front of I could snap some pics and they were fine with it, I guess it depends on who is working that day :( I hope you do go back - I personally can't wait to try a fruit crepe!
